Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board or UPPRPB have released the Exam Pattern and syllabus of UP Police SI and UP Police ASI examinations 2021, in official notification. Every candidate must know the exam pattern and the syllabus for UP Police SI and ASI to prepare to crack these examinations easily.
The Selection Process of the UP Police SI exam
Candidates, who are aspiring for the UP Police SI examination, have to go through four stages of the selection process. It is important to remain focused and qualify each stage with a good score. The different stages of the selection process for UP Police SI posts are:
- Written exam
- PST or Physical Standard Test and verification of document
- PET or Physical Efficiency Test
- Medical Test and character verification
The Selection Process of the UP Police ASI exam
Candidates appearing for the UP Police ASI examination, have to go through five stages of the selection process. The various stages of the selection process are:
- Written examination
- PST or Physical Standard Test and verification of document
- PET or Physical Efficiency Test
- Stenography Test or Computer Typing test
- Medical test and character verification
The Pattern of written examination
The exam pattern of both UP Police ASI and SI examinations is the same. The written examination has four papers:
- General Hindi
- Constitution/Basic Law/ General Knowledge
- Mental Ability and numerical
- Test of Reasoning or Mental Aptitude
The written examination has a total of 160 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 2.5 marks each. The total marks for the written examination are 400 and the exam is of 2 hours duration. For a wrong answer, there is no negative marking. The minimum mark that the candidate must score in each paper is 35%. To qualify in the written examination, the candidate must get 50% marks in total. A candidate must score equal to or more than cut-off marks in the written examination to go to the next round. Moreover, the UP Police ASI syllabus and SI syllabus is similar to each other.
Requirements of Physical Standard Test
The required physical standards that the candidates of UP Police SI and ASI examination have to comply with are:
For Males:

Chest Measurement is not required for female candidates. The women candidate should be of 40 kg minimum weight. For male candidates, a minimum chest expansion of 5 cm is required.
Document Verification
The candidates who are short-listed for the 3rd stage that I PET or Physical Efficiency Test should have all the required documents in place. The documents needed are mentioned in the notice released by UPPRPB. The documents required for verification are proof of mark, id proof, Aadhar card, and PAN card. Passport size photographs are also required. During verification, original copies of all the documents are required.
Physical Efficiency Test or PET stage
Candidates have to go through a running race. The specifications are different for males and females.
- Male candidates: need to complete running 4.8 km in 28 minutes
- Female candidates: have to complete running 2.4 km in 16 minutes
After successful completion of this stage, candidates go to the final stage where they have to clear the medical tests.
Medical Test
All candidates must clear this stage to get into the list of successful candidates of UP Police SI and ASI. The requirements are:
- The minimum distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 for both the eye without glasses
- Candidates should not have color blindness, squint, or any other morbid condition in any of the eyes
