Path of Exile is on a roll these days. Releasing bangers all around, Grinding Gear Games are showing no signs of stopping the hype train for the much-loved ARPG. Path of Exile has become a staple in the Twitch community, going so far as to be one of the top viewed games that people watch their favorite streamers player. Just recently, there’s a new expansion released called the Ultimatum where players will undergo trials that can lead to their victory or demise–depending on what choices they choose to go with. Besides more ways on how to farm PoE currency and PoE trade in the game, gamers also had the chance to have a more in-depth look at what’s to come for the sequel, Path of Exile. It’s already been stated by the developers that Path of Exile 2 definitely won’t be released in 2021 and to be quite honest, it’s perfectly understandable. Grinding Gear Games have a lot of projects on their hands that only revolve around the base game, so it’s going to take some time before Path of Exile’s sequel is ready for the public. That being said, this is the perfect time to dive into Path of Exile with the recent announcements and all. It may look daunting at first, but as long as gamers know what to expect, then Path of Exile may well be their next time-sinker.
Choosing the Right League
In most online games, after creating an account, the player will be met with the option to pick a class of their choice. This isn’t the case for Path of Exile. The first thing that greets players instead is what League they want to be a part of. For the first-timers, this may seem like a big question mark as to what this means, but Leagues in Path of Exile are very simple to understand. Basically, Leagues are servers or worlds that players play on. When it comes to online games, gamers are often automatically shoved into a server that’s nearest to their country, but in Path of Exile, things are a bit different. Each League is unique and alters the experience of players. What they experienced in one League will be entirely different should they join another League. This, of course, also translates into how they farm PoE currency and PoE trade as well.
There are three Leagues that players should take note of Private, Challenge, and Standard League. The Private League is a private server where a player and their friends can use exclusively. It goes to show that since it’s a more prestigious option, players will have to pay using real money. This is perfect for gamers that want to play with their pals without any interruptions. 10 players can take advantage of the Private League. The Challenge League is where a majority of the players usually pick due to the addition of modifiers and features that can’t be found in the other Leagues. This League is also the best League to join for players that want to experiment with different classes and builds that they can carry over to other Leagues. Finally, the Standard League is known to many as the “default server” since players can easily hop into the server anytime they want with just a click of a button. Unlike the Challenge League, Standard League servers don’t have modifiers, ensuring a clean and vanilla Path of Exile gameplay for purists that want to experience the entirety of the game on its own without the extra fuss or frills. This is also where players can delve into Solo Self-Found mode which is essentially single-player mode. Players that opt for Solo Self-Found won’t be able to trade or party up with other players. The Hardcore Standard League is also a part of Standard League which offers a quasi-permadeath system.
Picking the Class That Fits You
At the start, players have the option to pick one of the six classes, with the seventh being available after reaching Act 3 of the story quests. The six classes are the Marauder, Templar, Duelist, Witch, Shadow, and Ranger. All of these classes are tied to the main stats that can be found in Path of Exile which is Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity. The Marauder, Ranger, and the Witch to be specific correspond to those three stats, while the rest of the classes are hybrids or offer a combination of two or three of the stats altogether. The seventh unlockable class, the Scion, is considered to be the jack of all trades since it’s a class that can master three of the stats at the same time.
